So, I want to keep this somewhat straightforward, just so that, if you are checking out this page, you can at least have some confidence that things here are (mostly) right.
Who am I?
My name is Jordan Baker. I've been playing Magic in different forms since around 1998-2002, depending on what your definition of "playing" is. I'm a Legacy and Limited player at heart, but have mostly been on a playing hiatus since 2017...at least, relative to when I was drafting twice-weekly.
If you've been deep in Magic's Organized Play scene, though, you've probably been around at least one thing that I've had a hand in. I started judging in 2004, and have judged up to the Grand Prix and Nationals levels. In 2010, I branched into scorekeeping, and have scorekept dozens of Grand Prix and other high-level events in 10 countries and four continents, including one Players Tour and a Magic Online Championships.
For the fans of the most random of things, I was also the scorekeeper at CardMageddon in 2014.
I have also been randomly around the technology surrounding premier play for the last decade. This has ranged from RTools tournament tools, to PlayerLink Online, (which ran my.cfbevents.com) to helping advance multiple digitization efforts in premier play, including digital decklists at Grand Prixs, and online pairings dating back to 2012.
This website was originally designed to fill a need that I personally had at events, which was a straightforward way to explain and reference the many intertwining pieces of information that combine to fully-explain Magic's organized play apparatus. I could look at the invite list for a Players Tour, see terms like "Magic Premier Series", "WPN Qualifier", "Magic Online Showcase Open", and "Fractional Invites", and even if I was the scorekeeper for that event, I wouldn't have a complete grasp on all of these.
I am deep enough in the esports system that I know where to at least look answers, but I know that for many people, those resources are buried behind multiple websites and program documents. That brings me back to the overarching goal for this site: to help centralize this information into a single resource, that is reasonably-easy to navigate between. Hopefully, you can find this site as helpful as I personally need it to be, for my own understanding.
